Bathwick -

Bathwick is a residential area located about half a mile from the city centre. Bathwick Hill runs directly up to the University of Bath making this a good choice of location for those who wish to be close to campus and the city centre. It is a comparatively expensive area with accommodation being mainly private flats as opposed to shared houses. Parking is mainly off road and residential parking only. The Kennet and Avon canal runs through the area and there are fantastic narrow boat trips available nearby. There is also a popular golf club in the vicinity. The 18 and 418 bus services run up to campus and into the city.

Bear Flat -

Bear Flat has a busy atmosphere and is generally very safe, with some local shops and services. It is quite close to the city centre and buses 14, 14A and 714 run every 10 minutes and take about 5 minutes journey time to and from the city centre. The U6 service runs from Bear Flat to the University, but it is a daytime only service. It is close enough to Oldfield Park though to be able to walk and catch the 18 and 418 as well.

City Centre -

Living in the city centre has many advantages with shops, pubs and clubs on the doorstep. The area has stunning architecture and is a fantastic place to live. However, this does mean some of the properties have less in the way of mod cons and rents are higher than average. The city centre is covered by two wards, Abbey Ward and Kingsmead Ward. Both are served by Doctors, Dentists, Post offices, etc. Buses 18 and 418 provide a regular service up to the University. ^ top

Combe Down - This is generally a quiet and friendly place to live, although North Road can be a bit noisy. It is a residential area of mainly semi detached or terraced housing, with local shops and pubs and is served by the 20A and 20C buses which run regularly to the University, taking around 20 minutes and the number 2 service which runs to the city centre every 15 minutes, taking around 11 minutes journey time.

Larkhall and Lambridge -

With three schools in the area, there are many families who live here, but students also live here due to the amenities on offer including a supermarket. It is within walking distance of the city centre. The number 6 and 7 buses run to the city centre every 15 minutes via the supermarket on the London Road. There is no direct bus to the University.

Newbridge -

Newbridge Road is a popular area for students with frequent buses taking ten minutes to the city centre, or a twenty minute walk through Royal Victoria Park to town. The 418 Orange bus runs every twenty minutes along Newbridge Road. Chelsea Road has a wide range of shops and amenities.

Odd Down - Odd Down is a quiet area situated in the south west corner of Bath and has shopping facilities in Upper Bloomfield Road, Noah’s Corner and Wellsway. There are regular bus services taking about 20 – 30 minutes to the city centre. These include the 14, 14A, 714, 20A and 20C.

Oldfield Park -

A popular area served by frequent bus services on the 418 and 410 routes. There is a good range of shops and a supermarket. Oldfield Park is covered by two wards, Oldfield Ward and Westmoreland Ward.

Southdown - Southdown is approximately 2 miles from the city centre and is an area of mainly private housing with some student accommodation. There are local shops and takeaways to cater for most needs. The number 10 bus runs every 10 minutes during the day and 20 minutes at night to the city centre, but getting to the University could be a bit of a long journey and inconvenient as you would need to get two buses.

Twerton -

Twerton is on the outskirts of Bath and the number 5 bus runs every 10 minutes during the daytime and twenty minutes at night to and from the city centre. You can walk to the city centre in around 30 minutes and then catch a bus up to the University, but it is a long journey altogether. The 20A and 20C services also run here. There are local shops to cater for most of your needs.

Walcot - The Walcot area is bustling and full of character and has a diverse range of shops near the city centre. It is within walking distance of the bus stops to bus services to the University and elsewhere in the city.

Weston -

Weston is a popular, lively area with a good variety of shops and a supermarket. There is easy access to central Bath and a frequent bus service. The 418 runs from Newbridge Road to the University every 20 minutes. The 20A, 20C and 14/14A run from Bath through Weston.

Widcombe -

Widcombe is a quiet residential area with a good community feeling and sits on the Kennet and Avon canal. The high street has a good range of shops and amenities and it is close to the city centre. It is possible to walk or cycle to the University, but it’s a steep hill to climb going up! There is also a bus service to the University.
